Skill-safe is an online database, which offers clients the option to include ID Smartcards as part of their solution.

What is a Smartcard?

A Smartcard looks like a credit card and holds a microprocessor. If you have a Chip and PIN card from your bank, this is a Smartcard.

Smartcards and Skill-safe

With Skill-safe, the cardholder’s name and photograph are printed on the exterior of the card, just like a classic Identity card. However, the Smartcard also contains a microprocessor chip, which stores information about the individual, his skills, competencies and recent working hours.

This information can be easily interrogated using a Smartcard reader and, more importantly, updated so that the Smartcard always reflects the current competence and qualifications of the cardholder.

Smartcards work well in the construction sector, which deals with a large transient workforce.

Your supervisors might know their core staff who are employed by your organisation, but they do not know much necessarily about your sub-contractors.

If you give your qualified sub-contractors a Smartcard as well, they can go to any of your sites with their Smartcard and their qualifications can be checked instantly using a Smartcard Reader– at any time, anywhere.

The Smartcard option also allows for skill “spot checks” to take place at any time or location on site, without the need to access the Skill-safe database.

Clients adopting the Smartcard option can use Skill-safe to monitor time in and out of all personnel to help ensure their safety at all times.

Smartcard readers supplied include handheld and PC-based devices for easy transfer of Smartcard data to the main database.

Many construction companies are interested in Smartcards but are concerned about what it might cost to implement a Smartcard system.
